Practical Plant Taxonomy - BOT2710C/BOT5725 - UF
Practical Plant Taxonomy offers students an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of phylogenetic theory and interpretation of phylogeny, and uses that knowledge to understand the existing diversity of plants on the planet. I use a combination of morphological synapomorphies, as well as field characters, to give students the background they need to understand and identify most major north Florida familial clades.
Tropical Botany - FIU, FTBG, MBC, NTBG, UF
Tropical Botany is offered every summer for both US and international students and provides the basic fundamentals of our current understanding of tropical plant diversity and how to identify that diversity. We use amazing collections at The Kampong, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Montgomery Botanical Center and other natural areas in south Florida during the course. The course is team taught by Chris Baraloto (FIU), myself (Majure) and other participants. This course was taught for nearly 35 years by Distinguished UF Professor and plant systematist Dr. Walter S. Judd who we have had the pleasure to teach the course with over the past several years.
